Carolyn Gery, Ed.D. believes strongly equity is dependent upon intentional, collaborative work at the community level and has extensive experience in building relational capacity within diverse, educational environments. She is adept at building and nurturing partnerships to address homelessness, youth disconnection, and access to mental health.
Her professional background as a scholar and practitioner is in educational technology, trauma informed/resiliency focused systems, and data analytics. As an administrator of a statewide alternative high school, she forged partnerships with higher education to initiate an integrated framework incorporating social and emotional competencies with academic knowledge domains. She developed a Design Lab to address the rise in youth disconnection in rural and urban Colorado. The team designed an Early Warning System to flag students, map interventions, and create individualized dynamic learning programs. She previously served as the principal of a K-8 Expeditionary Learning school where she partnered with the local university to establish a community-based program.
Carolyn currently teaches in the multi-disciplinary Bachelor of Innovation program at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs. She is a research affiliate at the National Institute for Human Resilience where she works with a community-based resiliency program designed for education. Her research is focused on the impact of early trauma on cognition and the identification of high-impact teaching practices for marginalized student populations.
