Monica Cesarello has been an Academic Coordinator, an Afterschool Program Site Coordinator, a classroom teacher, district instructional technology coach, and literacy intervention lead teacher.
As an Academic Coordinator, Monica has had success in helping to develop a student-centered Professional Learning Community at her school over the past four years. The school had been identified as a Persistently Low Achieving School and has a high population of English Learners and students with low socio-economic backgrounds. Her team developed systems to operationalize structures around Response to Instruction, CCSS literacy instruction, and Impact Teams (PLC’s). In addition, her team implemented formative assessments school wide, supporting teachers and students to set ambitious learning goals to support mastery of the standards. Because of this culture shift and the work of the school team, both students and teachers have made significant gains in achievement and in their understanding of themselves as process learners.
Monica has also worked at the district level with teacher teams to develop English Language Arts and Literacy College and Career Curriculum. Monica has a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from San Jose State University. She resides in Aptos, California.
